description

Summary

Significance: Facilities 86 and 87 are examples of a utilitarian outbuilding type that have had numerous additions over the decades of their existence. The structures utilize early twentieth-century Craftsman-style materials such as board and batten siding and rustic wood shingle roofing; these outbuildings complement the Hale Alii quarters. These buildings are interesting elements of the early Pearl Harbor base construction. For a description of the neighborhood's overall appearance and significance, see HABS No. HI-357. For a discussion of the Junior Officer's Quarters Type, that these two building are associated with, see HABS No. HI-357-F.
