Summary
Significance: Villa Lewaro derives dual significance for both it architect and original owner. The former, Vertner Woodson Tandy, was New York's first licensed black architect. This building is known as his best work. The latter, Madame C.J. Walker, was a pioneer black businesswoman who became wealthy in the cosmetics industry.
