Heroes of Nicaraguan service receive decorations from Secretary of Navy. Seven officers of the United States Navy and Marine Corps were presented with decorations for distinguished service in Nicaragua by Secretary of the Navy Charles Francis Adams today at the Navy Department. In this picture Secretary Adams is pinning the Distinguished Medal on Rear Admiral David Sellers, Judge Advocate General of the Navy, who was commander of the Special Service in Nicaragua from July 1927 to May 1929. Others in the picture are Lieut. Col. C.R. Wallace, U.S.M.C., who also received Distinguished Service Federal Lieut. Col. C. R. Sanderson; 2nd Lieut. E. H. Saltzman; 2nd Lieut. Earl S. Piper; 2nd Lieut. John S. Letcher, all of whom received the Navy Cross. Lieut. John B. O'Neill, U.S. Navy received a star in lieu of Navy Cross as was previously awarded the Cross

Towers, right, being administered the oath of office today by John B. May, Chief Clerk of the Navy Department. If you happen to be commander of a Navy ship you will be happy to know about this new piece of mechanism. It is the result of the combined efforts of various branches of the Navy Dept. It is a theodolite (compass for measuring the horizon) that will be used on Navy ships. Mr. R.L. Currie of the aerological office Bureau of Aeronautics, Navy department is shown with this instrument which will be used to site pilot balloons sent from shipboard for the sake of gathering weather information
