Bulgaria's largest hospital. When it becomes necessary to evacuate thousands of Russian refugees from Odessa and other Black Sea ports, the American Red Cross relief expedition sent many of them to Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, where they were cared for in the state hospital, the largest in the country. Bulgaria was glad to have the Russians, whose country has done so much for them in the past centuries

Under American Protection. Russian refugees are safe under American protection in the island of Proti, a short distance from Constantinople where the American Red Cross has provided shelter and supplies to care for a thousand of them. They were taken to the island a few hours before the fall of Odessa by the relief ship "Navajo." This picture shows a group of exiles being conducted to the bath house by a Red Cross officer. Later they will be given comforatble beds in clean tents or barrack buildings

This tented city is one of the barriers against the spread of typhus and other contagious diseases brought out by the refugees from Russia. More than 4,000 pass through this camp every week.
