Collector's notes: This alabado is sung in commemoration of the Crucifixion and in veneration of the Holy Cross. It is always sung on May 3, the feast day of the Holy Cross, but may be sung at any vigil where there is an image of Our Lord. This text is a composite version based on five variants. The Arroyo Hondo, New Mexico variant does not contain verses 7, 9, 10, 13, 14, 16, 17, or 19.
