Fort Fred Steele, Bridge Tenders House, Fort Steele, Carbon County, WY
Summary
Significance: Intended to house civilian employees of the Union Pacific Railroad, around which Fort Steele developed, the Bridge Tender's House was built probably within a year of the Fort's establishment. It was one of three structures constructed for the railroad at the post - the other two were the depot and a water tower - and is the only one still standing. This 1 1/2 story frame saltbox building is in fair condition today.
