Francis M. Dimond House, 617 Hope Street, Bristol, Bristol County, RI

description

Summary

Significance: The Dimond House was designed by Russell Warren, a prominent Rhode Island architect, for former Governor Francis M. Dimond in 1838. This residence represents the culmination of the Greek Revival style in Bristol. The three-bay, matchboarded facade has a two-story, tetra-style Ionic portico. Various appendages radiate from the main temple-like structure. Two of these are unusual, the southwest room for its Gothic protrusion and the northeast room for its polygonal nature. The property is currently owned by Elise J.E. Sansone and is presently serving as a residence as well as a facility for Dr. Peter Sansone's medical practice.
