White was a master of the photographic medium and is known for his soft-focus and romantic images of women and children and his experimental work with movement and multiple exposures. He was also a successful portrait photographer and took many photographs of artists and writers of the day. White taught photography at the New York School of Photography he co-founded. He died in Mexico City in 1925 on a photographic trip.
