Laurel Valley Sugar Plantation, Engineer's House, 2 Miles South of Thibodaux on State Route 308, Thibodaux, Lafourche Parish, LA

Significance: The Creole House is the most common folk house in French Louisiana. Constructed by everyday folks, from preconceived ideas of what constitutes a proper house, folk houses are identical in form, but very through time in utilized materials. At Laurel Valley Plantation, the Creole House was assigned to skilled laborers several step above field hands. This particular residence was built by Barker-Lepine around 1914 fore the engineer of the dummy railway system. It is a structure more elaborate than the smaller shotgun and double-quarter houses.
