Significance: The shopping center was built in 1949 and designed by architect Alan J. Dickey. Today the center is slated to be demolished despite its location in the Lyon Park Historic District. A contributing resource to the historic district, the Lee Gardens Shopping Center is an excellent example of commercial, art deco design in the greater Washington, D.C., area.
