Placerville Road, White Rock Road between Clarksville & White Rock, El Dorado Hills, El Dorado County, CA
Summary
Significance: This section of road exemplifies rural highway construction undertaken by the California Bureau of Highways from 1910, when voters approved the first highway bond, to 1929. Notable are its narrow width, inconsistent shoulders, occasional sharp and unbanked curves, and conformance to existing terrain. The section is also important for its association with long distance automobile travel during the period. It was part of a state highway that served recreational travelers and two transcontinental routes - the Lincoln Highway and U.S. Highway 50.
