Sayrelands, Montauk Highway, Bridgehampton, Suffolk County, NY
Summary
Significance: It was probably built in the late 18th century by Captain Nathan Post, its center-hall plan, clapboard front facade with shake-covered sides and rear, and white oak framing characterize it as typical Long Island architecture. The house was inherited from Captain Post in 1802 by his son Lodowick, who sold it to John Pierson. It was sold in 1831 to Uriah Sayre, a whaling captain, and was passed down through the family to Mrs. Charles A. Miles. In 1965, Sayrelands was presented to the Society for the Preservation of Long Island Antiquities.
