Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Brick Officers' Quarters, Type A, Area A, Dayton, Montgomery County, OH

description

Summary

Significance: The majority of quarters intended for senior officers within the Brick Quarters complex are doubles: Type "A" is the only single type so designated and is larger and more exclusive then the other single types, "G" and "H." Type "A" varies significantly in floor plan, with larger rooms than types "C" and "D" - also intended for higher-ranking officers. Unlike the other types, the "A" living room is located to the center of the plan, with a large stair hall to the rear and the enclosed sun porch behind the entry vestibule. Quarters Type "A" are two-story, asymmetrical, Tudor-style structures in American-bond brick. A hipped-roof main block connects wit ha hip-on-gable roofed wing, to the front of which is a single-story entry vestibule.
