Summary

Pogrom Echo -- Ensemble -- Krambanbuli -- Ballet -- Dus fertriebene teibele -- Dus ferdil -- Dus yussemil -- Zion march -- Zedek lefonow -- Beit tate-mames kinder -- Wart a kappele. (Content)
This final theatrical opus by Abraham Goldfaden was a four-act drama loosely based upon the novel "Daniel Deronda" by George Eliot. The first month of its run met with only moderate attendance, but following Goldfaden's death in early January 1908, it became highly popular and played to full houses for nearly six months, a remarkable run for any Yiddish stage work. Its finale, the song "Wart a kappele" ("Wait a little bit"), played to tearful standing audiences. Those couplet lyrics by Goldfaden reflected his own lifelong outlook, reminding Yiddish theater performers and audiences of the benevolent neglect that he personally had experieneced in America, while his works and followers flourished.
