Douglas military aircraft Army. The Douglas C-54 is the military version of the commerical transport DC-4 used by the airline companies. It is a four-engined, low-wing monoplane designed for long-range personal transport. The commercial version was designed for forty day passengers and twenty-eight sleeper passengers. Its passenger-carrying capacity after modifications for military service is not revealed
