In the American Red Cross workrooms for surgical dressings, Rue de la Faisanderie, Paris. Making paper back pad to put on bed under a discharging wound. Usually these pads are covered with gauze on both sides, but when the picture was taken there was so great a shortage of gauze that it was necessary to save by covering only one side. Fresh supplies of gauze have since been received and the pads are now covered on both sides
