Significance: Sacramento was main commercial center during gold mining era in Mother Lode area. Building signs show occupation by the following businesses: Page, Bacon & Co., Gum & Humler, G. Frank Smith, E. & R.K. Swift, Adams & Co., Wells Fargo Co., Read & Co., and New England Seed Store, and others, at the time the engraving was made ca. 1880.
