Lake Hodges Flume, Along San Dieguito River between Lake Hodges & San Dieguito Reservoir, Rancho Santa Fe, San Diego County, CA

Significance: The Lake Hodges Flume was critical in the agricultural and residential development of the north San Diego coastal area. This structure was the only source of water for the communities of Rancho Santa Fe, Solana Beach and Del Mar until 1964. The flume is directly associated with the activities of Colonel Ed Fletcher, a key figure in the development of San Diego's infrastructure. The design of the flume is significant as it represents the application of state-of-the-art construction and design to the problem of water conveyance over hilly terrain. The flume was evaluated as eligible to the California Register of Historic Resources and the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.
