Manchester Street Generating Station, Transfer Houses 1, "C-D" & "A-Y", 460 Eddy Street, Providence, Providence County, RI
Summary
Significance: These three structures, along with the Breaker House (HAER No. RI-35-B) and the Conveyors (HAER No. RI-35-D) form the yard coal delivery and handling system constructed between 1940 and ca. 1950. The system functioned to provide coal to fire the power plant boilers in the Station (HAER No. RI-35-A). Coal loads were shifted from one conveyor to another of different height, slope, or direction in the Transfer Houses, which are significant as an integral component of fuel supply for the plant's electrical power generation operations.
