Significance: The barn is located on the periphery of San Luis Obispo. It serves as a Southern Gateway to San Luis Obispo, and is visible from all major thoroughfares. Agricultural Colleges and Experimental Stations (1880-1920), promoted progressive farming based on models of industrial efficiency; the utilization of a polygonal or circular barn was one such model. In the barn, cows were housed in the outer circle which allowed the inner circle to be animal-feed storage...
