Significance: The Case del Desierto and Barstow Depot, designed by Francis W. Wilson and completed in 1911, is significant for its association with broad national and regional themes in the history of railroad transportation, commerce, social history, and architecture. The history of Barstow is the history of the railroad; the depot hotel was for many years the social, cultural, and economic hub of the community. The Casa del Desierto is prepossesing in the desert landscape and is one of the finest remaining depot hotels in California.
