Summary
Print shows Ivan Mazepa, naked, bound to the back of a wild horse as punishment for his affair with Countess Theresa, wife of a count who learns of the affair and settles upon this form of punishment for Mazepa. The dead horse is lying on the ground at the edge of the forest. Two men untie the bonds and lift Mazepa from the back of the horse, a third man is ready to wrap the body in a large fur blanket. Includes 15 lines of verse from the poem "Mazeppa" by Lord Byron.
