Summary
Significance: Naval Air Station (NAS) Chase Field is noteworthy for its contributions to naval aviation during World War II and Cold War eras. Established in 1943 as an auxiliary naval air station attached to NAS Corpus Christi, the base assisted with the training of naval pilots and crewman for combat duty for much of the succeeding 50 years. The Department of the Navy decommissioned the base soon after the conclusion of World War II, but recalled it into service in 1953 during the Korean War.
