"Almost as good as cake" the French youngsters say of the Red Cross buns which supplement "dejeuner" at their school canteens. Red Cross physicians examining the children of the crowded districts of Paris found that they were delicate and subject to illness from undernourishment. In many of these wards the mothers are working in munitions factories or other war industries and the children must take the noon meal at the school canteens. The menu of many of these canteens is now being supplemented by American beans, meat, flour, jam, sugar and "buns"
