[France has her fortune told. (The French press is speculating on a new grouping of the powers)]

Marianne, symbol of France, looks over a fortune teller's shoulder at tarot cards marked with symbols of various European powers. The French card, marked with a Phygian cap, rests on the table beside a card labeled with a Belgian hat, for Belgium supported and assisted the French in the Ruhr occupation. Isolated on the opposite side of the table, is a card with a Roman helmet. Italy, the commentary points out, gave France only half-hearted diplomatic support. The fortune teller also considers an alliance between Germany and Russia as she holds together in her hand, a card marked with a Prussian helmet and another, with the Russian bear. A card displaying a dollar sign, a reference to the reparations issue, protrudes from the sleeve of her garment. A crow sits on a perch over the table at the upper left.

On March 3, 1923, the London Outlook published a commentary entitled "General Post," which discussed rumors about the formation of an anti-British coalition. Asserting that the rumors were a result of Britain's opposition to the French occupation of the Ruhr Valley in January 1923, the article speculated on the consequences of certain alliances. It further contended that Britain would not stand alone, for in working to restore economic stability, she was aligned with the concerns of other major powers. A similar version of Robinson's cartoon, published in the same issue in black and white, corresponds to the commentary.
