description

Summary

Print shows a campaign banner for Democratic candidates in the presidential election of 1848, Lewis Cass and running mate vice presidential nominee William O. Butler. The banner is very similar to Currier's 1844 Democratic banner (see no. 1844-13) employing the same general arrangement of drapery and tassels with oval portraits of the candidates. Here the eagle sits on a globe marked with "America" on one side and "France" on the other. The current candidates are called "The Democrats Choice for President & Vice President from 1849 to 1853."
