Summary

Birds eye view print shows the fortification of Kaiserswerth on the bank of the Rhine River. Depicted are troops on an island, ships arriving with reinforcements, the walled city in flames and hills in the background. The French reoccupied Kaiserswerth in 1701 during the War of the Spanish Succession and the Allies laid siege to it again in 1702. After two months of hard struggle the town surrendered and the fortification were mostly destroyed. Kaiserswerth was incorporated into the city of Düsseldorf, Germany in 1929.
