Reconnoisance [sic] of the Enemies position in front of Fairfax Ct. House Oct. 18th 1861

description

Summary

Signed lower right: Alfred R. Waud.
Title inscribed below image.
Some historian had said that the figure on the white horse is Waud, but this seems unlikely as Brady's photograph has Waud with a full beard and this figure is clean shaven. It looks more like a cleric.
Published in: New York Illustrated News, April 12, 1862.
Sketch of house partially obscured by trees on verso.
Reference print available in the Civil War Drawings file 1861.
Gift, J.P. Morgan, 1919 (DLC/PP-1919:R1.2.401)
Forms part of: Morgan collection of Civil War drawings.
