Negro skilled workers played an important part in the construction of the SS George Washington Carver, second Liberty Ship named for a Negro, in the Richmond Shipyard No. 1 of the Kaiser Company. Two brothers, Earva and Turres Smith, and Al Carter, all shipfitters, are shown at work on the vessel. All three have been employed in the Kaiser yards for more than nine months
